No surprise here: the UH-Hilo women’s soccer team’s match went into overtime.

The Vulcans and BYU-Hawaii exchanged goals in the second half Saturday during a 1-1 draw in Laie, Oahu, UH-Hilo’s fifth consecutive match to extend beyond regulation, dating back to the last season.

Vulcans goalkeeper Jenna Hufford allowed her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 69th minute. Less than eight minutes earlier, Kahri Golden gave the Vulcans the lead, rattling a shot in off the crossbar from 30 yards out.

Just three matches into the season, UH-Hilo (1-0-2) is well on its way to surpassing its six draws from last season.

The Sea Warriors (0-2-1) held a 15-11 advantage in shots.

UH-Hilo put three shots on frame.

In addition to Golden, freshmen Danika Steele and Tiera Arakawa, who scored the game-winner in OT on Thursday, had the others.

In the men’s match, Besser Davila scored in the first half and Pawel Dregan tacked on a goal on a penalty kick in the second half as BYU-Hawaii blanked the Vulcans 2-0.

Those were the only two shots of the match for the Sea Warriors (2-2).

UH-Hilo (1-3) has been held scoreless in three of four matches.

The men and women open Pacific West Conference play next Saturday at home against Notre Dame de Namur.
